MTV Games and Harmonix, the two companies that are in charge of the fate of the long-running Rock Band franchise, have announced that fans of the music simulation game can now download and enjoy a series of 12 songs from singer and songwriter Billy Joel.

The new content is available on the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the Nintendo Wii home consoles.

The Billy Joel tracks are linked to the 40-year anniversary of the release of his first solo effort, called “Cold Spring Harbor,” which has also prompted Columbia/Legacy to issue a special versions of all Billy Joel content, with new audio tracks, live performances and rarities added to the mix.

The Billy Joel based DLC includes:

“Big Shot” “Captain Jack” “It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me” “Movin’ Out (Anthony’s Song)” “Only the Good Die Young” “Piano Man” “Pressure” “Say Goodbye to Hollywood” “The Entertainer" “The Stranger” “We Didn’t Start the Fire” “You May Be Right”

The pack comprises some of the biggest hits Billy Joel has ever released and the entire DLC content has been chosen to make sure that the best piano bits from his career are enclosed.

Rock Band 3 is the first game created by Harmonix that allows the players to simulate keyboard playing while also introducing Pro levels of play for both guitar and bass, allowing gamers to get closer to real instrument playing than ever.

For each song in the pack Rock Band 3, players will need to pay the usual 1.99 dollars, which is the equivalent of 200 Wii Points and of 160 Microsoft Points.

Those who want the entire Billy Joel The Hits: Rock Band Edition package will need to shell out 19.99 dollars or 2,000 Wii Points or 1,600 Microsoft Points.
