Harmonix and MTV Games, the two companies that are working together on the Rock Band franchise, have announced that four bands, White Stripes, Foreigner, Spliknot and Spacehog, have been chosen to appear in the demo version for Rock Band 3 and showcase the mechanics introduced by the new game, which came out on October 26.

The demo is available for those who own a Xbox 360 from Microsoft or a PlayStation 3 from Sony and allows players to experience four songs in the Quickplay game mode, with two venues offered as backgrounds.

Those Xbox 360 users who do not have a Gold account will have to wait until November 12 to get access to the demo.

Players will be able to see how three part harmonies work in Rock Band 3 and can even use their old guitar controllers to experience the keyboard parts that the new game simulates using a keyboard controller.

The songs on offer are;

Spacehog – “In the Meantime” White Stripes – “Hardest Button to Button” Slipknot – “Before I Forget” Foreigner – “Cold As Ice”

The full version of Rock Band 3 includes a 83 song on disk soundtrack that includes songs from bands like Bob Marley, John Lennon, The Cure, Jane's Addiction, Def Leppard and Ozzy Osbourne.

Players can also import most of the songs that came on the Rock Band 2 disk and there's backwards support for the catalog of tracks that is offered through the Rock Band Music Store, with more DLC coming every week.

The biggest new feature in Rock Band 3 is the addition of Pro Mode, which Harmonix says “bridges the world of gaming and real musicianship through a collection of new instrument controllers, trainers and gameplay options that open the door to real-world guitar, bass, keyboard and drum skills.”
