Taylor Swift scoops up the most awards, Rihanna and Gotye are hot on her heels

Taylor Swift must be needing a new room for all her awards by now. If she didn’t get one already, she probably will soon because she’s just cleaned the Billboard Music Awards 2013, held over the weekend in Las Vegas.

The pop country singer went home with no less than 8 awards, including in major categories like Artist of the Year, Top Female Artist, and Top Album.

She lost the Milestone Award to Justin Bieber but, considering how many she won in other categories, chances are she didn’t exactly go home brokenhearted.

Rihanna and Gotye also won big on this very musical night, each taking home 4 awards.

Also on stage to accept awards were Madonna, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and Nicki Minaj, with all of them remembering to thank the fans first and foremost.

The Billboard awards granted based on sales so, in many ways, they’re more illustrative of how popular an artist is than regular industry awards, like, say, the Grammys, which names winners by different criteria.

The night would not have been complete without incendiary performances, which were provided by Bruno Mars, Pitbull (once with Christina Aguilera and once with Jennifer Lopez), Miguel, and Taylor Swift.

Justin Bieber also took a moment to address his many haters, who constantly tell him that he has no artistic value because he’s just another manufactured pop star.

He said that he’d like the focus to be just on his music and his craft, stressing that he was the real deal, not a gimmick, as we also informed you earlier today.

“I’m 19 and I’m doing pretty OK,” he said. What do his haters have to show for, he seemed to be implying.

Below is the complete list of winners at the Billboard Music Awards 2013. Check it out to see if your favorite made the cut.
