In the United Kingdom

The New Year seems a lot like the last so far, judging by the latest United Kingdom videogame chart. Modern Warfare 2, the first person shooter developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, the biggest videogame of 2009, is still in first spot and will probably not relinquish it before the release of Mass Effect 2, which is coming towards the end of January. But at least, this week, we actually have two new titles that have managed to break into the top ten.

Wii Fit Plus from Nintendo has managed to jump to second spot from five, as some United Kingdom gamers are probably looking to the Balance Board-enabled fitness title to lose some of the pounds they gained over the holiday season by playing videogames and eating ungodly amounts of food.

Just Dance, an Ubisoft title, also managed to go up four places, reaching third spot, while Wii Sports Resort from Nintendo continues to sit in fourth place. The first new entry of the year is Bayonetta from SEGA, the over-the-top Japanese style action adventure made by the same man who started the Devil May Cry series. For those who like chaining long combos and taking out a wide variety of complex bosses, Bayonetta is one of the best experiences of the last few years, landing in fifth place.

FIFA 10 from EA Sports is holding on to sixth place in the chart as Assassin's Creed 2 registers the most precipitous drop of the week by going down to seven coming in from two. The second new entry of the week is Darksiders from THQ, a game in which the player takes control over War, one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Again, expect a variety of enemies and a lot of boss fights. New Super Mario Bros. Wii is at number nine, while Avatar: The Game continues to bring up the rear in ten.
