EA went on the attack today against Activision's blockbuster Call of Duty: Black Ops title, saying that the upcoming expansion to its previous Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the Vietnam add-on, will target the hugely popular first person shooter.

After having somewhat failed in making a dent in the profit of Call of Duty: Black Ops with the Medal of Honor title, EA is now hoping that the Vietnam expansion for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will attract gamers.

This is according to EA's Chief Financial Officer, Eric Brown, who said during a recent conference that the Vietnam expansion pack was specifically designed to "compete head to head with Call of Duty: Black Ops."

This statement backs up the desire expressed by EA boss John Riccitiello who revealed that he wanted a Call of Duty killer in the form of the upcoming Battlefield 3 first person shooter, currently in development at the EA DICE studio, that is also launching the Vietnam expansion.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam is set to appear on December 18, for the PC, through digital download outlets like Steam or the EA Store, and on December 21, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, through the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Live Marketplace, respectively.

The expansion will be available for download in exchange for $15, on the PC and the PlayStation 3, and 1200 Microsoft Points, if you want to get it for the Xbox 360.

It will bring 4 new maps, 6 new vehicles and 15 new weapons, all dating from the time of the Vietnam war, as well as a recently revealed unlockable Operation Hastings map.

This extra content will be unlocked once players achieve 69 million team actions, ranging from resupplying, reviving, healing, spotting or repairing other things, both in the regular game or in the Vietnam expansion.

Do you think Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam will be able to steal some players away from Call of Duty: Black Ops or is EA way too optimistic about the new add-on for its first person shooter?
