After some leaked screenshots last week, Battlefield 3's Battlelog social stat-tracking service has been detailed by the game's developer, DICE, in order to showcase just how it works and how it can improve the whole Battlefield 3 experience.

The new first-person shooter from DICE and Electronic Arts is set to have a variety of features, starting with its state-of-the-art Frostbite 2 engine, which allows it to display detailed animations and special effects, to the polished destruction mechanics that delighted players of the series in previous installments.

Another key feature in Battlefield 3's set will be the all-new Battlelog stat-tracking service, which doubles as a social network for players of the shooter, allowing them not just to see how their fair in the game but compare it to friends and interact with fellow players not just during online matches.

"We want to make Battlefield 3 a more social gaming experience and it all starts with Battlelog,” says Fredrik Loving, Battlelog producer at DICE. “We are changing how you communicate, play, compete and share content with their friends, extending the in-game experience to be accessible from your home computer, on your handheld devices while commuting, or wherever you may be."

The main component of Battlelog is the Battlefeed, similar to the News stream of Facebook, for example, where all the newest and most important information about your friends, like what matches they completed, what achievements they've unlocked, is displayed.

"The feed will encourage people to play even more,” explains Loving. “They will see their friends ranking up, receiving awards they don’t have yet, or getting the new cool guns they have been missing. It will increase the competitive edge. Everything you do on the battlefield is shared amongst your friends.”

What's more, when players enter new matches, friends have the ability to just jump right in from the Battlelog.

There's also a solid stat-tracking service incorporated in the new feature, which showcases practically every action done by the player inside Battlefield 3, while displaying information about what unlockable items can be had or how the progress of the player compares to his friends.

Basically, Battlefield 3 is set to really impress plenty of gamers with the Battlelog system and, seeing as how it's completely free, has an advantage over its big rival, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and its Call of Duty Elite service.
