A lot of people were skeptical about DICE's decision to create and release Battlefield 1943, a game that would only be launched via the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live for now, aimed at offering an experience similar to that of Battlefield 1942 while making it easier for players to get into the game and do damage.

After just a few days since the official release, players’ interest has been so great that Electronic Arts needs to set up more servers to make sure that all players can get into games and play without any issues.

Gordon VanDyke, a representative from DICE, stated that “The game is incredibly successful beyond even my expectations. We have reached server capacity, but the bad news about this now is some people can't join unless someone leaves. But don't worry, we are adding more servers ASAP to Xbox, and in preparation PS3, that should start going up ASAP, with priority on Xbox 360.” At the moment, a lot of players are unable to connect to any games or experience quite significant lag problems.

Battlefield 1943 uses three classic maps, with a fourth set to be unlocked after a certain amount of kills are made by the community that plays the game. As many as 24 players can fight on any of the maps and while clan support is absent from the game, the trademark fluid combat is there to be experienced by both veterans and new comers.

DICE is not done with the Battlefield franchise. The developers have confirmed that Bad Company 2 is in development, set to deliver more explosions, more destructible environments and more weird army humor from the members of B Company and there are reports that DICE is also working on Battlefield 3, which might have a modern day setting and arrive in 2010.
