The development team at Rocksteady is using a new Spotlight series to offer more details about the core mechanics of the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight, with the most recent installment focusing on the Disruptor, which made its first appearance in a new trailer for the title.

The new gadget has been created in order to give The Dark Knight more ways to control a combat situation when his physical capabilities alone are no longer enough.

The Disruptor can be used three times during each engagement and can be used to detonate enemy weapons, although this costs two of its charges, to electrify weapon crates so that they shock enemies and to tag enemy vehicles with trackers so that they can be followed by the Batmobile.

A scope also means Batman has a way to survey the scene before he enters combat, creating a plan for victory.

The official forum post explains that tactical flexibility is very important for players and the new gadgets can be used to enhance the play style of those who buy Batman: Arkham Knight.

Upgrades are also offered for the Disruptor, allowing players to get more charges or to hack into the turrets of the drone tanks that he will have to face in combat.

Rocksteady says that it will focus on the Batwing in the next Spotlight article.

Batman: Arkham Knight is the final installment in the series

Rocksteady is aiming to make the final outing of the current incarnation of the comic book character a memorable one, with a focus on perfecting the combat system of the series, which has long been seen as its defining element.

More moves and gadgets will expand the range of strategies that gamers can use.

Batman: Arkham Knight will focus on the new threat to Gotham, with a familiar gallery of rogues that includes Scarecrow, Harley Quinn and others joined by the entirely new Arkham Knight.

The character has been created specifically by DC Comics to introduce a worthy adversary for The Dark Knight, who can match him in terms of combat skills.

Recently Rocksteady has announced a Season Pass for the title, which will include a full prequel story that will focus on Batgirl and other content.

Batman: Arkham Knight will be launched on the PC, the Xbox One from Microsoft and the PlayStation 4 from Sony on June 23.
