The development team could also be working on an iOS port

The official website for the classic role-playing game series Baldur’s Gate has been revived by a team at developer Beamdog and has been offering a series of cryptic messages linked to the series which might point to the development of an entire new game in the series.

The messages included in the source code for the newly re-launched website include: “Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine/For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory./And then... it returned. Better than it was before.”

Another message says: “Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal... perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah... patience would reveal it all.”

A more recent addition is “As the silver moon waxes and wanes, so too does life.”

Recently, a Steam-based Complete Edition for Baldur’s Gate II has been announced and fans of the series have speculated that the revived site might be linked to it.

That rumor was squashed by Trent Oster, who is now working with independent developer and digital distributor Beamdog and previously collaborated on Baldur’s Gate for BioWare, who told GameBanshee that, “We're not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much. Other than that, we're hoping to announce something soon.”

Recent Twitter-based messages from the developer have mentioned Apple-made products, which might mean that the classic Baldur’s Gate role-playing game formula is being adapted for the iPhone or maybe the iPad.

The fan base has long asked for a new game in the franchise, but BioWare decided to create a spiritual successor rather than a direct one with the Dragon Age universe, which is not linked in any way to Dungeons & Dragons.

Some fans have suggested that Beamdog will use the Dragon Age: Origins engine to remake both the original and second Baldur’s Gate titles, although that seems unlikely.
