In late August, the news broke that the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago had witnessed the birth of a baby beluga whale, whose gender at the time remained unknown.

As we explained, this was because the staff at this marine park believed it would be best to allow the baby whale to simply swim around and bond with its mother, instead of submitting it to stressful medical examinations.

Now that the bay beluga is old enough for veterinarians to have a look at it, the people at the Shedd Aquarium finally know what they are dealing with.

Without further ado: the baby beluga is a girl.

Those wishing to see it up close are cordially invited to visit the Shedd Aquarium this coming Friday, October 26, when the baby beluga makes its official public debut.
