Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is set during the age of piracy and players will have to deal with the rather unique approach that this group of people had to relationships and to general moral matters.

Darby McDevitt, the leading script writer working on the game at Ubisoft, tells Polygon that main character Edward Kenway is a little too interested in three ways for the liking of his wife but he aims to make it up to her by getting rich.

The writer states, "His primary motivation in Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is to get rich and prove himself a ‘man of quality’ to his family and betters. So there is a special woman in Edward’s life, but there are also other not-so-special women as well."

The story and the gameplay will mix when it comes to women because Edward will be able to use them in order to distract potential rivals or to help his own cause, all without sacrificing his relationship to his wife.

McDevitt adds, "this scene in the reveal trailer was clearly designed hint at the pirate lifestyle, there is a gameplay element here, to show that you can use certain NPC characters to more effectively achieve your goals. You might have noticed that the woman in the foreground seduced his target at the end of the trailer."

Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag will challengers players to master naval combat but there will be plenty of occasions to also explore the towns of the Caribbean in order to meet and work with a number of other famous pirates.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag is set to launch in October and will be offered on the PC, the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the Wii U and the Wii.

The game might also make the jump to next generation consoles.
