Bohemia Interactive, as the developer, and 505 Games, as the publisher, are announcing that the presentation of the factions which will appear in Armed Assault 2, also known as ArmA 2, is now completed. We know the six sides that will be making an appearance as the military simulator is launched later in 2009.

The National Party or the nationalists are set to be interested in establishing a stronghold in the fictional nation of Chernarus, where the game takes place, and in taking on both the Red Star movement, which aims to bring the country on Russia's power orbit and the Government Forces, which should fight for the preservation of the status quo. The other two military sides in the game will be the Russian armed forces, focused on superior firepower and on special forces, and the American military, which is pushing for a limited intervention and use of high tech weaponry that can act as a force multiplier.

The philosophy of the nationalists is best described by this quote taken from the supreme leader of the movement, known only as Prizrak, “We have to show common citizens that our actions are focused on rooting out the evil, not on punishing anyone based on their nationality. Disarm the ordinary armed men, but eliminate all commissars, commanders and functionaries ruthlessly.”

ArmA 2 should offer both impressive graphic quality, simulating every piece of military material and a variety of environments, and a complex gameplay, set to be the most realistic ever in a first person shooter. Bohemia Interactive has crafted quite a complex scenario in the in game nation of Chernarus, with six complex factions battling out for domination in the ex Soviet republic. ArmA 2 doesn't yet have a release date, but we're ready to bet that it's coming before the fall of 2009.
