Realistic warfare simulations, where one bullet can mean death and cover is not indestructible, have been few and far between in the recent couple of years, with the exception of Operation Flashpoint and Armed Assault, two games created by the same developer, Bohemia Interactive. The studio, which delivered the first game for Codemasters and has collaborated with IDEA Games on the latter, announces that development of ArmA 2 is proceeding rapidly, while the fan community is continuing to offer a wealth of new content for the original game in the series.

By following this link to the website of Bohemia Interactive and signing up, you can gain access to a wide variety of mods, which change the game in many ways, mainly adding new content, such as weapons, more vehicles to play around with and maps on which to practice the art of warfare in a realistic way.

Marek Spanel, the Chief Executive Officer of Bohemia Interactive, declared that “An active and creating community is the best satisfaction and compliment for each game developer and we are very happy to see our work is inspiration and drive for our fans. I would like to thank to all members of ArmA: Armed Assault community. This support is helping us in our work of the forthcoming project ARMA2.”

Bohemia Interactive is now hard at work creating ArmA 2, a title aimed at preserving the advances made in the first release while offering more tactical options to the player and a better looking game world. The setting will be the fictional state of Chernarus, an ex Soviet satellite where civil war is ragging and only a United States Marines Corps Force Recon team led by the player can limit the extent of civilian suffering. The developers promise the game will bring “a large-scale game world, authentic and extremely detailed modern units, weapons, vehicles and environments, challenging single player and a vast array of multiplayer options.” The game is set for release later in 2009.
