Apple yesterday announced that the iLife '09 suite was shipping the next day, January 27 – that's today! The company advertises the new version of the suite as “featuring major upgrades to iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand, with breakthrough new ways to organize and manage photos, create movies and learn to play music.” iLife costs $79 (US) and requires Mac OS X version 10.5.6 or later. iPhoto ’09 builds on its predecessor's ability to automatically organize photos into Events by adding Faces and Places. Apple has chosen these innovative new ways to offer users easy organizing and managing of their photos using face detection, face recognition and GPS geo-tagging technologies. iMovie '09 also adds on top of the successful iMovie '08, including a new Precision Editor, video stabilization, advanced drag and drop, and animated travel maps.

GarageBand ’09 introduces 18 basic lessons and optional lessons from top artists such as Sara Bareilles, John Fogerty, Norah Jones and Sting. The guides offer interactive lessons that combine video instruction with animated notation and instrument views.
