Another new genre is born; hopefully, it will last

Every now and then, a company decides it is time to create something new and never seen before and we, gamers, can only be really happy with their decision and everything left for us to do is hope that they will manage to produce a great title that will rise up to the promises. That is the same situation we have with World War II General Commander - Operation: Watch on the Rhine, a game that promises to bring a new level of depth to real time strategy games (together with the really lengthy title). So, we can only hope they manage to do it.

Not exactly an eye-candy if we are to judge the screenshots, WWII: GC calls itself the first RTOS (Real Time Operational Strategy) for PCs. What does this mean? Well, it plans to break up with the conventional type of playing RTS games and put the player into a WWII tactical simulation as real and authentic as possible.

The operational mechanics of turn based strategy games have been optimized and enhanced to produce a real 300 square km of "playing grounds", covering Belgium, southern Holland and north west France. The players will be able to direct their divisions, regiments and battalions attempting to occupy the most strategic positions and develop authentic and very close-to-reality manoeuvres for each battle.

Even though it hasn't been launched yet, WWII: GC. Operation: Watch on the Rhine plans to be only the first in several games that will cover the most important war scenes of the historical moment. It also introduces a new concept of gameplay, called Battle of the Bulge (and don't you dare to think at anything dirty!). Also, the game promises to be a joy to test in online multiplayer where lots of scenarios, as well as user made ones, will be waiting for the real time tacticians. And everything will soon be available, on the 15th of September 2008.
