Operation Darkness, Atlus' latest game for the Xbox 360 console is going to be released on the 24th of June, but the developers really want everybody to see what masterpiece they have created, so they are offering a demo on Xbox Live Marketplace - you can start downloading it right now. It offers you the chance to play one mission from the game, while testing a variety of attack options and access some of the spells available in the full version.

Officially described as a WWII turn based strategy, Operation Darkness is actually more like a turn based tactical game set in a World War II environment, but mixing real life with fantasy elements - and everything seems to be quite interesting, especially for those of you expecting the new Jagged Alliance on PCs.

The story of the game, even though it is not one of the most credible, at least tries to separate itself from the obscenely accurate stories offered by the huge amounts of games based on World War II available on the market. You are leading a team of elite soldiers whose aim is to cut deep into the heart of Hitler's army and place a fatal blow on his ever-growing army of evil. It seems that, somehow, the Third Reich managed to summon some unearthly creatures and it's up to you to stop them before they get too strong, thus unstoppable and able to take over the world. So, expect to see a lot of werewolves, vampires and other undead creatures!

The game offers a huge arsenal of weapons of skills for your team members to learn and master, as well as a true squad-based tactical gameplay. Of course, the multiplayer option is not missing from this Xbox 360 title either, so you will be able to go online for some co-op play with up to three other players. But until all these become reality (on the 24th of June), you should check the demo available on Xbox Live.
