Rovio, the developers of the already popular mobile game Angry Birds, has just announced the upcoming availability of a new version of the application, called Angry Birds Rio, which is set to bring together the game with the animated film Rio.

The new game is expected to become available on mobile phones sometime in March, and should hit platforms like Android, iOS, or Symbian with a number of 45 levels packed inside.

Rio is a comedy-adventure that comes from the makers of the highly popular Ice Age series. Blu, a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, lives with his best friend Linda in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota.

Blu and Linda think he is the last of his species, but they learn about another Macaw, living in Rio de Janeiro, and head to that exotic land to find Jewel, Blu’s female counterpart.

Soon after they arrive there, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers. Blue escapes with the help of Jewel, and a group of “wise-cracking and smooth-talking” city birds.

Blu has now to learn to fly, and to return with his newly found companions to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.

“In Angry Birds Rio, the original Angry Birds are kidnapped and taken to the magical city of Rio, where they eventually escape their captors and set out to save their friends, Blu and Jewel – two rare macaws and the stars of the upcoming Fox motion picture, Rio,” Rovio explains.

“Angry Birds Rio will pair the physics-based gameplay of the original game with unique twists based on the highly-anticipated film.”

“Angry Birds Rio will launch with 45 dedicated levels and will regularly add new levels via app updates. The game will be available for download on smart phones and tablets worldwide,” the app developer added.
