Google's Android mobile operating system has managed to take the second position on the United States market in November 2010, a recent report from comScore, Inc., a leader in measuring the digital world, shows. The report was based on data on mobile subscribers age 13 or higher in the country.

According to the said report, Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion managed to remain the leader on the mobile OS market, with 33.5 percent market share, while Android climbed on the second place with 26.0 percent share. 61.5 million people used smartphones in November, comScore reports.

At the same time, the company notes that Apple's iOS platform dropped to the third position, with only 25.0 percent of smartphone subscribers in the US, though increasing its share by 0.8 percentage points.

Microsoft's Windows Phone platform came in on the fourth position in November, with 9.0 percent of the smartphone subscribers in the US, while Palm ended the month on the fifth position, with only 3.9 percent market share.

The report also unveiled info on the leading handset vendor on the US market, which was Samsung, with 24.5 percent market share of the 234 million Americans ages 13 and older that used mobile devices in November 2010.

The company managed to increase its market share by 0.9 percentage points when compared to the three months period ended August.

The second place on the mobile phone makers rankings went to LG, with 20.9 percent share, followed by Motorola with 17.0 percent, RIM with 8.8 percent and Nokia with 7.2 percent.

It seems that Android is slowly moving towards becoming the leading mobile OS in the United States, and the new report from comScore, as well as previous data delivered by Nielsen, show exactly that.

According to comScore, the new report “ranked the leading mobile original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and smartphone operating system (OS) platforms in the U.S. according to their share of current mobile subscribers ages 13 and older, and reviewed the most popular activities and content accessed via the subscriber’s primary mobile phone.”
