T-Mobile UK announced yesterday that paid applications were also available on Android Market for the users in the UK, meaning that all those that live in the country and own a G1 phone would be able to enjoy the new feature of the marketplace.

T-Mobile stated that 20 percent of its current sales were G1 devices. At the same time, the company also stated that its sales represented about 70 percent of the sales iPhone was registering in the country. To be more precise, while O2 UK reports to have sold one million iPhones, T-Mobile says it also managed to ship 700,000 G1s.

According to these numbers, the phone seems to be a success at the moment, which means that the Android Market would have a lot of users on its side as well. And while the software marketplace sees great traction from the users in the United States, the introduction of paid apps on the Android Market in the UK should also be received with joy by customers.

Those that own a G1 handset usually try to personalize it by downloading and installing applications on it. This appears to be a general trend lately, as iPhone users also do so, and those that have a BlackBerry, Nokia or WinMo phone use apps for customization. “People love being able to slickly move between the different ways of communicating with their different social groups,” said a T-Mobile official.

While enjoying quickly making a move between applications, users also like the fact that the apps developed for Android have a rather “playfull” nature, says the carrier. “From a developer's point of view, this is really exciting - the next big application could come from literally anywhere in the world.” For the time being, it seems that the top 10 apps for Android includes on the first places The Weather Channel, MySpace Mobile and ShopSavvy; yet there are no games, reports PocketGamer.biz.
