Just as rumored only a few days ago, the owners of a Samsung Galaxy Tab tablet PC on the airwaves of wireless carrier Sprint in the United States can now download and install the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system version on their devices.

The new firmware version EF17 should be delivered to Sprint's customers in stages, the wireless carrier announced, but all users will taste it in the coming days.

In addition to bringing in the Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) platform version on Galaxy Tab devices at Sprint, the new OS flavor also comes with HID Bluetooth, but no other details on the improvements it includes were unveiled.

Of course, the new software updates will bring forth all of the enhancements that Android 2.3 Gingerbread brought when compared to the previous flavor of the OS.

Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab in fall last year with the Android 2.2 Froyo platform version on board.

The new software update comes to devices with Baseband S:P100.08 S.EF17, Build GINGERBREAD.EF17, and is being delivered to all users over the air.

Since the new software update will be delivered as an OTA firmware, users won't need to connect the device to their computers at home to perform the upgrade via the Kies software, as they would usually have to when it comes to updating a Samsung Android device.

It should also be noted that Sprint is set to make the new software update available for all of its Galaxy Tab owners within the next 4 days, at least this is what the carrier notes on a recent post on its support website.

According to Sprint, users will be able to download and install the new software update on their Galaxy Tab devices in about five minutes.

Those who would like to learn additional info on the new software update for the Galaxy Tab should head over to the wireless carrier's support website here.
