It appears that HTC has started to deploy the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update for the HTC Sensation, in Europe.

However, users report that the update is now available for unbranded Sensation smartphones, but HTC has yet to make any announcements regarding the roll out.

The update is reportedly available OTA (over the air), so HTC Sensation owners should receive a notification on their phone regarding the update.

Besides bringing the Android version to the latest iteration of Google's mobile platform, until Ice Cream Sandwich arrives, it will update the phone's firmware to version 1.45.401.2.

In addition, Android 2.3.4 should add Gtalk video chat for HTC Sensation, but it will also bring several bugs fixes and performance improvements.

The update has about 41MB and is now available in Germany, but we assume that it will be delivered across Europe in the next few days.

Android 2.3.4 was officially announced in April and was initially pushed on Nexus S and Nexus One smartphones simply because they are aimed at developers.

The update introduces several new features such as Google Maps 5.1 with 3D, Voice Search 2.1.1 with Voice Actions and personalized voice search, as well as the latest version of Google Books.

The Google Talk feature was only available to tablet users on Android 3.0, but with Android 2.3.4 video and voice chat are now available on Android phones that have front facing cameras.

HTC Sensation owners who still haven't gotten a notification should try searching manually for the update by going to Settings / About phone / Software updates / Check now.

If the phone does not find any new update available it means that it is not yet rolling out in that region, so it is recommended to check again at a later time.
