Computer maker Dell has just announced some changes in its plans regarding the OS update its tablet PC called Dell Streak was supposed to receive in the near future. No more Android 2.1 plans are included in the company's roadmap, but Android 2.2 Froyo is a go.

We already knew that Dell has plans both for Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 updates, but it seems that they all converged into a single software solution that would arrive on the slate in the near future, even if the release window was said to be “before the end of the year.”

“Due to resources and commitments to get our global customers the 2.2/Froyo update by the end of the year, we will not be publishing another version of 2.1 nor will we be pushing out 2.1 to additional customers,” the company announced officially via its community forums.

Moreover, the said post continues, explaining that, even if a specific release date cannot be unveiled at the moment, users won't have to wait that long for the software to arrive:

“I know many of you have requested that we publish specific dates for Android OS updates; however, because there are so many variables (some outside of our control), we cannot make a specific commitment other than we will be publishing 2.2 by the end of this year to all of our Dell Streak customers.

I can tell you that our target date is NOT December 31st. In fact, the over-the-air update to 2.2 is target date is much sooner than that,” a company's representative stated.

There's not much else to add here, since the only thing that remains to be seen is when the actual update would be sent out to users, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, in case there are some who missed our previous posts on Dell Streak and Android 2.2 Froyo, we should note that the two already met, unofficially.

A beta Android 2.2 Froyo ROM emerged into the wild a few days ago, with almost all features up and running, though with some specific issues. Read more about it here.
