The official Android 2.2 Froyo software update

has started to arrive on HTC EVO 4G handsets out there only a few weeks ago, yet it can be already rooted, with specific details on the process now available into the wild.

This would be the first time the high-end device gets rooted, with the Android 2.1-based version of the handset being the first one to get through this process.

“The rooting method for the EVO 4G is close to the same as the Droid 2, just recently created by Sebastian Krahmer at http://c-skills.blogspot.com/, but with a little variation,” a recent post on the XDA-Developers forum notes.

However, the rooting process for this Android 2.2-based device is a rather lengthy one, and those who are not familiar with what rooting a device is all about, especially since there are various risks included in the equation.

“I am NOT responsible for any damages (bricking, not working, basically anything that goes wrong). This has been tested and works. Over the next few days, I will be cleaning this post up and making the steps more clear,” the said post continues.

In case there are some who would like to go through the rooting process of the Android 2.2-based HTC EVO 4G, they should read all the instructions available on the said post carefully, so as to make sure things end up well.

Since the phone comes with the latest version of Google's mobile OS, gaining root access on it only offer users the possibility to install applications that were not available otherwise.

However, chances are that cooked ROMs for the handset would also emerge in the near future, expanding the capabilities of this device, or adding new features into the mix.

All in all, the good news is that the Android 2.2 Froyo flavor of HTC EVO 4G was rooted. As stated above, the process is quite complicated at the moment, but simpler solutions are expected to become available too.
