Canadian mobile phone carrier Rogers Wireless has just announced that it started to roll out a new software update for its users, namely the highly expected Android 2.1 OS flavor for the company's HTC Magic+ devices.

According to a recent tweet from the wireless carrier, HTC is set to start deploying the new solution over the air to all of Rogers' HTC Magic+ customers.

“Hello!! HTC Magic+ Customers should expect HTC to start rolling out 2.1 OS today, OTA,” the said Tweet states (via MobileSyrup).

In all fairness, the tweet says “should,” which means that some last minute issues might actually push the roll-out back once again.

However, we'll keep our fingers crossed for the solution to start landing on devices as soon as today, since many enthusiasts have been long waiting for it to be released.

In case there are some who might not remember, Rogers promised the solution ever since early 2010, but delayed its release ever since.

But the carrier also announced roughly two weeks ago that things are going well with the OS update, and that the roll-out process should start in no time.

“I'm happy to report that we reached a milestone yesterday and the 2.1 OS for Magic+ was approved by Rogers. It has now gone to Google for approval and assuming there are no further issues HTC will start rolling it out,” the wireless carrier's Mary Pretutto said at the time.

As soon as the deployment will kick off, Rogers is set to deliver all the necessary documentation to its customers, she announced.

Interestingly enough, it seems that this would be the first Over the Air (OTA) upgrade the carrier delivers to one of its Android devices.

In addition to having the solution available for them today, Rogers' HTC Magic+ customers should get it for free: “OTA upgrades will not result in loss of data, and all downloads will be $0-rated, at no cost to customers.”
