Both at T-Mobile US and UK

It seems that the long-expected day when Google Android users would be able to enjoy an update for the operating system running on their G1 devices is finally here, as we learn that both T-Mobile US and T-Mobile UK have started to roll out the Android 1.5 Cupcake firmware over-the-air to their subscribers.

There are a lot of new features that the Cupcake update promises to deliver to the early adopters of the Android platform, and the latter can finally enjoy them, along with a variety of bug fixes, not to mention the wide range of improvements that should also come in the package.

Given the fact that for now the update is available only OTA, there is no information on how long it will take for all the G1 owners to get it, yet it is rather great that users in the US and UK have started to receive it.

One thing that is worth mentioning as well is that, though it brings a large number of improvements and new features, there might be some applications that won't work with this iteration of the platform, while some features that were available with the 1.0 and 1.1 versions might see restrictions in the new one. At the same time, the new layout features are likely to come into conflict with some of the older apps.

For what it's worth, the Cupcake is here, and it brings more great things than it could break. It remains to be seen whether there are some things that will break down upon installing it, so we'll keep you posted on what those who already received it have to say. Those who would like to take a look at the full list of new features and the range of improvements that the Android 1.5 update is set to offer can find more details here.
