“Jennifer’s Body,” the most hyped horror comedy of our times, starring Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried as two high school best friends who, at one point in the movie, share a kiss, arrives in theaters on September 18. Said scene received much media attention, as one can easily imagine, but it was all for the wrong reasons, Oscar-winning writer Diablo Cody, who handled the script on this film, tells The Frisky.

The kiss is “meaningful” and “profound” and not just a media stunt, the famous writer insists. Of course, both she and the director of the movie, Karyn Kusama, knew from the start the kind of attention and frenzy including it in the film would generate. Still, they thought it wouldn’t reach to have the extent it has today, harboring a vain hope that moviegoers (and the media in particular) would see past the frenzy, to the real significance of the scene. Having the two lead characters share a kiss is not without meaning, Cody explains.

“All right, if the two protagonists of the film were a guy and a girl and in a particularly tense moment, they shared a kiss, no one would say it was gratuitous. But the fact that they’re women means it’s some kind of stunt. It was intended to be something profound and meaningful to me and to Karyn [Kusama, the director]. Obviously we knew people were going to totally sensationalize it.” Diablo Cody tells The Frisky.

As for working with one of the hottest actresses of the moment, the writer says Fox really likes to keep to herself, therefore she didn’t actually get to know her properly. Despite the façade that Fox puts on in the media, she is very mysterious and won’t let just about anybody get close to her. Still, she is a very talented actress who puts her whole heart in each performance she gives, and certainly a pleasure to be around, she adds.

“She really makes people angry! Girls hate her, don’t they?” Cody says of Megan and her impressive public persona. “I do not know her very well. Even having worked with her to this extent, I don’t know her very well because she’s very private and mysterious… she’s a really, truly eccentric person… I don’t think people know how to process her at all. I think it’s one of those things where she does not fit the mold in any way and it freaks people out!” the writer further says.
