Alltel has come up with a GPS nature-focused application, most useful for outdoor enthusiasts. The app, called Trimble Outdoor, addresses hikers, woodsmen or any kind of users who enjoy taking trips in the “wild.”

Unlike other, more conventional GPS applications, this one focuses on the more adventurous side of hiking, bringing features that are perfect for those who want to go backpacking, mountain biking or performing other such off-road activities.

The service packs very useful features, which offer that much needed safety feeling while roaming in the wild, and thanks to which you should not have any kind of worries on your adventurous and enjoyable trips. For example, you can plan the whole adventure ahead, knowing from the start the footways or the places you are going to encounter on your journeys.

Assuming that you miscalculate, or somehow do get a bit confused, the application has the ability to retrace your steps from the moment you've started. Moreover, Trimble Outdoor offers features that allow you to mark and edit the highlights of the trip, by keeping a small journal. Also, should you care about such details, the application can reveal the geographical coordinates, the map of the area at any given time, plus the direction you are heading, also substituting the old compass.

Kristi Crum, director of data and content services for Alltel Wireless, stated, regarding the new GPS application, "Without any additional equipment to carry around, Alltel customers can enjoy the freedom to explore new and exciting parts of the country[...]With our new Trimble Outdoor application, customers can have more fun while staying safe and connected to friends and family who want to share in the adventures."

Furthermore, Alltel's Trimble comes with photographing, video and audio recording capabilities that not only keep track of your favorite places, sights and adventures, but also allow you to send out your geographical locations and notes taken during the trip.

The service costs only $1,99 per day for all Alltel users enjoying a GPS-enabled device. Should you opt for a one-year subscription, the price rises to $39.99, whereas for a month you’ll have to pay $5.99. The application is available for download on Alltel's online shops or website.
