The Firaxis developed XCOM: Enemy Unknown is now slated to arrive before the shooter reimagining of the same concept and the developers working on the game are eager to see how fans of the original will react to their take on it.

Jake Solomon, who is a lead designer working on XCOM: Enemy Unknown, has told Rock, Paper, Shotgun that, “There were some people on my team who weren’t familiar with the original, and of course everybody on our team had to play the original.

“When you start on our project, you have to play for a week. I just said if you can’t make it to Cydonia at the end of your week you can just not bother coming in.”

The original game has a dedicate following, mostly players who experienced it during the ‘90s and have struggled to find other titles that offer the same kind of feeling, and they have reacted with fury to the announcement that 2K Marin was set to remake the game as a tactical shooter.

Since then 2K Games also announced the Firaxis led effort to remake the strategy game and the hardcore crowd was somewhat appreciative, although they are constantly looking for game elements that are not inspired by the original to criticize.

Solomon added, “I know that some people are passionate about this aspect or that aspect and that’s not a surprise, I mean that’s not a surprise for me who plays the original game still till this day.

“I don’t think any of us are bothered if people say like ‘oh, I don’t agree that they did this or did that’, I mean all it tells you is that you have something that I think people feel strongly about and that’s certainly, I know it sounds silly, but it’s certainly better than the alternative, right?”

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be launched during the autumn launch season on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 and the shooter is expected during 2013.
