The XCOM first person shooter game that’s been in development at 2K Marin for quite some time, has apparently been delayed into the first quarter of 2013 by its publisher, 2K Games.

The XCOM franchise has been dormant for quite some time, but its owner, 2K Games, decided to bring back the real time strategy series by turning it into a first person shooter experience. In order to calm down the legions of fans upset by this change, the company has also revealed earlier this month that Firaxis is working on a strategy installment, called XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

While 2K was excited about releasing two XCOM games in 2012, it seems that this won’t happen, as the latest issue of Game Informer, via IGN, mentions that the XCOM shooter from 2K Marin has been delayed.

Instead of the late March release date, as was the case up until now, the new XCOM title will be released in the first quarter of 2013, meaning sometime between January 1 and March 31.

There’s no official word from 2K Games as of yet, so expect more details and even a possible explanation in the near future.
