Earlier this year, during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dell announced the introduction of its new Alienware-branded gaming portable PC, the M11x, a 11.6-inch laptop that was said to be capable of delivering the necessary gaming performance to run some of today's latest gaming applications. Said laptop was the first of its kind, combining the ultraportability factor of a netbook design with the performance of a gaming system. On that note, the world's third largest PC maker announced today the pricing and technical specifications of its new ultraportable PC.

“The extraordinary performance of the Alienware m11x redefines, in a big way, the capabilities of small form factor laptops,” said Arthur Lewis, general manager, Dell Gaming Group. “By combining this level of graphics performance, with over-clockable CPUs in a truly mobile product – all for less than $1,000 — Dell once again demonstrates its commitment to making superior technology accessible to all.”

Alienware is known as a gaming-focused brand, meaning that the M11x takes advantage of the company's expertise in this field to deliver the gaming performance enthusiasts demand. That performance, according to new details, will be available for a starting price point of US$799. The basic model will be powered by an Intel 1.3GHz Pentium processor, coupled with just 2GB of DDR3 memory and a 160GB hard drive.

However, those looking to boost the performance of their ultraportable, the PC vendor will provide an upgrade option that includes an Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 processor, running at 1.3GHz, with the system supporting up to 8GB of DDR3 memory and a large-capacity 500GB hard drive. There's also an NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M 1GB graphics card, WiFi b/g/n and optional 3G WWAN. The entire solution is said to weight in at just under 4.5lbs.

Providing a full computing solution, the laptop also features HDMI and VGA connectivity, three USB 2.0 ports, FireWire, a multi-format card reader and a battery pack that is believed to be capable of delivering up to 8 hours of life.
