Netbooks have become one of the most popular segments in the portable PC industry, as these small-sized, low-power computer systems are capable of providing users with a high level of portability and the basic computing performance. However, as technology advances, new form factors emerge, providing users with a wider range of choices for their new computer system. On that note, Round Rock, Texas-based Dell has made a series of announcements, regarding its new line of portable computer systems, which includes the new Alienware M11x, a netbook-sized computer system that provides the gaming power of a 15-inch laptop, according to the company.

Already showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show, in Las Vegas, Nevada, the new portable computer system looks to take the netbook concept to a whole new level. Featuring an 11.6-inch display, this portable computer system is small enough to compete with some of the other, Atom-based netbooks, that are already available on the market. However, the system has been packed with the NVIDIA GT335M switchable graphics, which basically turns this small computer into a gaming ready machine.

Unfortunately, there aren't many details regarding the technical specifications of the new ultraportable, but from what is currently available, the Alienware M11x will be capable of providing users with 6.5hours of battery life, while in gaming mode, this goes down to "over 2 hours", according to rumors cited by Engadget. Aside from that, all we can assume is that the M11x is a scaled-down version of the company's high-end gaming laptops.

Dell hasn't fully detailed its new ultraportable PC, but claims that this thing will be able to run games and media files at an HD resolution of 720p. With no details on when the system will be available on the market, we can only tell you that the M11x expected to cost less than US$1,000.
