Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that with the release of Alan Wake on the PC, the game has sold over 2 million copies around the world, meaning it’s now becoming a cult classic among players.

Alan Wake appeared back in 2009 exclusively on the Xbox 360, but only recently did it manage to reach the PC platform via Steam, as a digital download, and in stores, as a retail edition.

We’ve already heard that the PC version was a large success, as developer Remedy Entertainment managed to recoup its investment in almost 48 hours, but now the studio has shared the overall performance of Alan Wake.

According to Oskari Hakkinen, the head of the studio’s franchise development, the game has sold over two million copies across the PC and Xbox 360 platforms, confirming that the series can withstand the test of time.

"We've moved over two million copies - that's including PC," he confirmed to CVG. "So after a slow start it's turning into something really positive. It's definitely had legs. I think narrative experiences just have a tendency for that.”

The Remedy executive even goes as far as calling Alan Wake a cult classic that’s now being promoted through word of mouth by people who have already played it.

"Alan Wake's like a cult classic if you like... People who have played and enjoyed the story feel the urge to tell their friends and other gamers out there that they need to try this experience, they need to play it."

In terms of the franchise’s future, Hakkinen confirms that Alan Wake is close to the studio’s heart, so you can bet that more installments will appear at some point in time.

“Alan Wake is definitely very close to our hearts. It's our IP - we own it. It's not something that we're going to forget very easily.”

Remedy is now working on an unannounced video game project and, unofficially for now, on porting the Alan Wake’s American Nightmare downloadable game from the Xbox 360 to the PC.
