Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish developer of iconic titles like Max Payne 1 and 2, not to mention the more recent Alan Wake, has made a few statements about the game's sequel, which will be announced as a downloadable title at the 2011 Spike TV Video Game Awards.

Alan Wake impressed quite a lot of gamers, even though it wasn't that huge of a success. Still, its novel gameplay mechanic of fighting shadow monsters with light did manage to delight many Xbox 360 owners back in 2010.

Now, as we heard last week, the 2011 Spike TV Video Game Awards will be host to many great announcements, including a new Alan Wake title which, as revealed by Xbox Live community manager Larry Hryb, will be a downloadable experience, and not a full pledged Alan Wake 2.

Now, the game's developer, Remedy Entertainment has cleared a few things up, just before the first screenshot of the game, presumably called Alan Wake: Night Springs, will be published on the web by Game Informer magazine.

According to the studio's community manager, fans of the original shouldn't cast judgement about the new title because it's a downloadable one and not a full retail release.

"You're assuming a lot by the platform it is on," he said. "All I can say is wait for the official announcement before making up your mind. We'll have an official announcement up in a moment but let me clarify that you guys shouldn't feel disheartened that it's coming to XBLA.

"It's structured like a full release complete with a pretty damn impressive storyline that expands the originals in some interesting ways," he added. "I really enjoyed it so I'm sure you all will too!"

The original game received quite a few downloadable add-ons, bringing new adventures for writer turned monster killer Alan Wake, so this new title might really up the ante for him and the overall narrative of the game.

Expect more details later today, alongside the first screenshot, and get ready for the 2011 Spike TV VGAs on December 10.
