It's not a demo, it looks quite good, it sounds good too... why are they being so kind?

Microsoft has recently announced that this Wednesday (that's tomorrow for gamers staying up all night losing track of time), Aegis Wing will be available as a free download, via XBLA, for both Gold and Silver members. Aegis Wing has been developed 3 MS interns over the past summer, as Evil Avatar reports. To your left, there are some pretty impressive in-game screens.

Here are some of the game's features, as Microsoft themselves describe them:

- Amazing environmental art - Full symphonic soundtrack - Up to four-player simultaneous cooperative multiplayer gameplay, either locally on the same Xbox 360 console or over Xbox LIVE* - Ability to attach your ship to your wingmen's spacecraft to gain the "turret" ability and increase the firepower of the Super Weapons - Four Super Weapons: the Hades Beam (wreaks total destruction), the Gorgon Burst (wipes out incoming fire and disables enemy spacecraft with an electromagnetic pulse), the Arcus Missile (a heat-seeking missile) and the Lambda Shield (deflects incoming fire back at enemies) - Six epic missions and several memorable boss encounters to fight through

As the screens show, the game looks fairly decent for a free downloadable title via XBLA, for both Gold and Silver members, but it will be released only in North America and Europe and for a limited time frame.

This kindness coming from Microsoft and Carbonated Games (the developer) should be appreciated, no doubt, but could this be just a stalling for a more anticipated title, a next-gen title perhaps? Not that Xbox 360 gamers don't have enough titles to go around but it surely sounds like they're trying to fill up a gap during this hot summer.

No worries anyway, I repeat, the game looks fairly good and if it plays good too (that "four-player simultaneous cooperative multiplayer gameplay" sounds quite nifty), Xboxers are in for a full summer. So remember, Aegis Wing is free to download and play beginning tomorrow.
