Body Pump classes are described as a blend of aerobics with strength-training exercises, which are meant to make the latter more fun and less of an annoyance. Though many women avoid to weight train for fear they might build too much muscle and thus be less feminine, there are several reasons why they should at least consider taking this type of combined classes, as Health puts it.

For starters, we have the very fact that Body Pump is a workout class. Lifting weights and getting through reps can be an incredible bore if done alone, especially at the end of a classic aerobics workout session. This would excuse many who give them up even before they start doing them – but, with Body Pump, the excuse goes right out the window. As Health puts it, not wanting to be the only one who fails or stops can act as a very powerful incentive, even when it comes to lifting weights.

“Quick and dirty. Body Pump is a mix of aerobic exercise and strength training, so you kill two birds with one stone. I’m not spending a ton of time strength training and then doing cardio. I get both workouts in just 60 minutes – and I work really hard during that hour. I’m usually dripping with sweat by the end of the class!” the Health editor further says of the advantages of this type of class with combined exercises. Doing the strength training in a controlled environment also helps a lot, it is further said

“Ultimate push. I find I get a tougher workout at Body Pump than when strength training on my own. The instructors motivate me to push myself to improve by yelling out encouraging words. And the upbeat, rocking music inspires me to really focus and work even harder. Body Pump has actually helped me move past a plateau too. I’m lifting heavier weights, my body is stronger all over, and I have lost a little bit of weight,” the same editor explains.

One last reason to give this type of workout a try is that it can turn into more of a social event than a regular workout class by simply bringing along a few friends. This way, you can both hang out and spend time with people whose company you enjoy and break a sweat.
