And showing it, but not quite at E3

Activision, back when it was not yet part of Activision Blizzard, announced that it was pulling out of the Entertainment Software Association and that it would not take part in E3. Because the event itself is a big draw for the press and for the gamers, Activision Blizzard has decided to host an "independent" press event alongside E3 to show off some of its new games.

The first project announced was the new Singularity game, which is a shooter developed by Raven Software and aims to play around with a time warping mechanic. It's still in the early days and details are in short supply. Another brief trailer was shown, this time of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion, which, naturally, features some superhero and the promise of great adventures.

A longer trailer and a co-op mission were shown for Call of Duty: World at War. Activision is saying that veteran actor Kiefer Sutherland will provide the voice for one of the main characters. The game looks good at this stage, with the bigger battles looking as good or even better than the ones seen in Call of Duty 4.

Speaking of Call of Duty, Activision did not show how it planned to use the engine in the upcoming Bond game Quantum of Solace. The trailer shown was mostly cut scenes, with just a few gameplay clips squeezed in. The new Spider-Man game also got a showing, with some pretty impressive slinging action demoed.

The biggest part of the Activision show was dedicated to Guitar Hero World Tour. A Neversoft employee band played the Van Halen song Hot for Teacher, which will be featured in the game, showing off how the new band dynamics work out and detailing the various uses of the new drum set that the game comes with. One interesting tidbit of information we got is that the new game will apparently be compatible with Rock Band instruments.
