Back to the WWII!

Call of Duty 4 is on of the greatest hits of recent times when it comes to multiplayer playtime, fighting head to head against Halo 3 and often winning. It is, of course, expected that the next iteration in the popular franchise will have the same success, even though most of the fans were left wishing for much more when they heard that CoD returns to World War II action and it is going to be developed by Treyarch and not Infinity Ward. Well... nobody's perfect!

And that is the first thing that crosses our mind when we look at the first three leaked screenshots from the upcoming game: they are not at all perfect and, by having in mind that we're dealing with some highly photoshopped images, we could say that they are actually pretty lame.

The first image, the one you can see in the upper left corner, is so bright that it makes me hope we will get only 1% of gameplay in such circumstances; otherwise we can kiss our eye health goodbye. Or the game (but we shouldn't hurry to make such statements, since it is still early).

The next two screenies are a bit better, especially the one in the burning village: the background looks very natural, the fire is very realistic and we truly hope that the full game will be able to bring such a nice visual experience. It's worth noting that water looks pretty awful - anyway, in-game water has never been a hit.

All in all, even though the screenshots don't look as good as we would've expected from a Call of Duty 5 game, we do notice some great attention to details (just check the soldiers' hats) and promising backgrounds. But, as I've said in the beginning, these could be some highly photoshopped pictures or even cutscene stills. Oh, well... we'll see whether we have reasons to be excited or not whenever some official gameplay pictures are released.
