Computer maker Acer came to the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with some appealing smartphones in its pocket, including the Acer liquidmini, which was officially announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January 2011. This is not the first “mini” handset that we had the chance to see into the wild, but it is certainly one of the most appealing ones, with a 3.2-inch touchscreen display (HVGA 480 x 320 resolution) with multi-touch capabilities on the front, and a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

According to Acer, they tried to pack all of the necessary smartphone capabilities that any user would like in the small form factor that liquidmini arrives on shelves with.

The new device offers a nice range of appealing features, packed inside a body with beautiful chrome edges and a soft touch casing, meant to fit perfectly inside a user's hand.

Running under Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system, the phone also comes with the Acer UI 4.0 Lite, which delivers fast access to wireless options, music player and sound profiles.

Moreover, the smartphone sports a full-featured Google suite of applications including Gmail, Google Maps, Google Navigation and Google Talk.

The list of specs for liquidmini also includes WiFi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth, A-GPS, 3.5mm standard audio jack, a Li-Po 1300 mAh battery, 512MB of ROM and 256 MB of RAM, as well as a 600 MHz processor.

The mobile phone is DLNA certified, enabling users to stream content from it to any DLNA television or to another compatible device. The Acer clear.fi media sharing system was meant to further enhance this feature.

Among the main features of the new device, we can also count access to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter through Acer’s SocialJogger app, which enables users easily read, like and comment.

With DocumentsToGo and RoadSync included into the mix, the Acer liquidmini would also offer document viewing and editing features (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF), not to mention that it comes with Microsoft Exchange support.

Whether it comes to browsing the Internet, watching videos on YouTube, or connecting with friends through various online communities, the small Acer liquidmini supports them all.
