Like so many other companies, Acer has been active on the tablet front, but it looks like it hasn't lagged behind as far as the rest of its business outlets go, having created a new TravelMate notebook.

Acer hasn't gong through the best of all financial quarters in 2011, but the outfit is definitely not about to let up on its new business direction.

Then again, it was to be expected that its old habits would not really go away any time soon, one of them being to release one or more laptops on a regular basis.

In this case, it is a new member for the TravelMate series of notebooks that has been released, one based on the current generation of Intel central processing units.

The product is a 15.6-inch mobile computer whose processor can be an Intel Core i3 or a Core i5 from the Sandy Bridge generation.

Whichever chip is selected can be backed up by up to 8 GB of RAM (random access memory) of the DDR3 variety.

Also, a hard disk drive is present, with a capacity of 250 GB, 320 GB, 500 GB, 640 GB or 750 GB.

Furthermore, the CPU's built-in HD 3000 graphics have a 15.6-inch HD display (resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels) to work with.

Other specifications include an 8x DVD writer,, the expected connectivity and I/O capabilities (LAN, wireless connectivity, USB etc.) plus a 6-cell or 9-cell battery.

As for special features, Acer threw in pre-boot authentication and the ProShield Security tools which, among other things, let one create a Professional Security Drive, where they may store and encrypt sensible files. Anti-Theft technology, ADP (Absolute Data protection) and a built-in file shredder are also present.

Set to sell in the UK next month (July, 2011), the Acer TravelMate 5760 will have a price equivalent to roughly $600.
