It looks like Acer is not about to let ASUS grab all of today's attention, whether by its intent or not, as some information has now surfaced in regards to a certain tablet device.

Not many official things seem to be happening on the IT market, but it looks like a formal announcement is precisely what Acer chose to do in order to grab the eyes and ears of the world's populace, or those form one country at least.

Apparently, a certain slate that the company has actually had on sale for a while now will get a software update soon.

To be more specific, the Acer Iconia Tab A500 will be moved over to the Android 3.1 operating system starting on July 5, 2011.

The announcement was made via the company's German Facebook page and is the first actual occasion when an exact date was given on this particular matter.

Then again, since the news was not given anywhere else, it is unclear if the transition to the better operating system will be a worldwide event or just restricted to one region, at first anyway.

In the meantime, consumers can take a look at all the other things that have been happening on the tablet segment, and this implies more than the find that netbooks aren't in such danger from them.

ASUS plans a successor to the Eee Pad Transformer, for instance, one powered by NVIDIA's upcoming Tegra 3 platform, the Kal El.

The same company has also been developing a 13-inch ARM-powered ultrathin (likely the same NVIDIA Kal El platform as above).

All in all, the tablet market is making the news more and more lately, and one is bound to start hearing about Ice Cream Sandwich more often form now on, at least until yet a newer version of Android comes out.
