A Chrome OS tablet has been in the rumor mill for at least 4 years now

Late last month I told you Acer was sending out invites to their A Touch More Connected event, scheduled for April 29 in the Big Apple.

Back then we speculated that the tech giant would be taking the opportunity to pull out of the bag new tablets, Chromebooks and maybe even wearables.

But now the folks over at ZDNet claim that Acer has something even steamier up its sleeve. According to them the Taiwanese tech giant is getting ready to release the world’s first Chrome-OS tablet.

Wait, what? Could this truly be possible? Some of you might remember that for the past four years rumors have been circulating claiming Google wanted to build a ChromeOS tablet.

Google went as far as to tease a design concept in early 2010, which looks like the image I have attached above. On top of that, Google has been consistent in providing updates to improve the overall Chrome touchscreen experience, a clear sign to some that Chrome will one day arrive on a tablet.

But after four years of speculation, is there a point in pushing this theory any further? The source claims Acer has been struggling to keep itself a afloat in the PC market, but its Chromebooks efforts are doing a good job at sustaining the company.

Since PC shipments are declining and tablets are on the rise, it would make sense for Acer to find the sweet spot between the two, which might as well mean a ChromeOS tablet. What do you think?
