Acer sends out invites to its event set for next month in New York

It appears Acer has some big plans for the near future. After being the stage for one of most anticipated product launches, the all-new HTC One, New York will be seemingly taken by storm by Acer.

The company has started sending out invites to their A Touch More Connected event that has been scheduled for April 29 in the Big Apple (via AndroidCommunity).

The invitation reads:

“We are very excited to host you in New York for the debut of this year’s product lineup and Jason Chen’s first global press conference as Acer’s President and CEO. More information to follow.”

The invite doesn’t give anything more away, but we can speculate on what Acer might be prepping for us in the upcoming weeks.

We’re certainly going to see some tablets being announced. Just yesterday, we saw the Iconia One 7 budget tablet get clearance from the FCC.

The tablet has a 7-inch TFT LCD display and a pretty low-range resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It draws power from a 1.5GHz VIA WonderMedia WM8880 dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 CPU processor fitted with ARM Mali-400MP2 graphics and is also equipped with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

It appears Acer is stepping away from offering high-end models and is instead focusing on bringing lower-speced tablets with accessible price-tags to the market.

The company has been setting some pretty optimistic goals for 2014. If in 2013 is was estimated the Taiwanese company has shipped a total of 5 million tablets worldwide, the manufacturer wants to double the numbers throughout this year.

We could expect Acer to say something about the rolling out of the Android 4.4. KitKat update, although this is not very likely at such a big event.

Moving on, the company might also want to take the opportunity to present its refreshed Chromebook line for 2014. Acer’s Chromebooks have been hailed by the media and consumers alike as being decent, worthy products with a sensible price-tag attached to it.

Last but not least, there’s a possibility Acer will show us a new wearable. Back in January, we mentioned sources coming out of Asia reported Acer might be working on necklace type of wearable which will integrate temperature sensing sensors.

While the information hasn’t been confirmed yet, come late April we might see if this atypical concept has become reality or not. And even if it doesn’t, Acer might still announce a partnership with Android Wear. We’ll just have to wait and see.
