14 DAY TRIAL // The smaller brother of the highly-acclaimed Acer Iconia Tab A500, the A100 has just been spotted at Walmart and is expected to hit shelves in the next few days.
The 7-inch Honeycomb tablet will be available for purchase for only $349, which puts it only $50 below the Asus Eee Pad Transformer 10-inch tablet.
Although the Iconia Tab A100 was initially slated for a May release the device was postponed because of Google's inability to optimize its Honeycomb platform to 7-inch tablets.
It appears that at one point Acer wanted to cancel the Iconia Tab A100 entirely, but fortunately this did not happen and the tablet was approved by FCC (Federal Communications Commission) earlier this month.
The release of the tablet became imminent once the A100 was spotted at Walmart, price tagged and ready to be rolled out.
Besides its 7-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16 million colors support and 600 x 1024 pixels resolution, the Iconia Tab A100 features the manufacturer's proprietary Acer UI on top of Honeycomb.
Furthermore, the tablet is equipped with NVIDIA's dual-core Tegra 2 processor and packs 512 MB RAM, 8GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).
Other highlights of the tablet include: Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity and Wi-Fi hotspot capability, accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, Gyro sensor, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and A2DP support, and microUSB and HDMI ports.
Acer Iconia Tab A100 sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and video recording capabilities, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chat.
Additionally, the tablet comes with the entire Google Suite package, including Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, as well as Picasa integration, Document viewer and support for Adobe Flash Player 10.3.
It is expected that the Iconia Tab A100 be released at Walmart just in time for the Independence Day.
