The device could heat up if charged incorrectly

We reported to you recently that AT&T had decided that its Quickfire device should not be sold to the users anymore. The company announced all of its stores and channel retailers to halt all sales of the device and quarantine the existing stock.

The mobile phone operator said that this measure had been taken as a result of some reports it had received, regarding certain issues that the Sidekick killer-wannabe device had. Sales reps haven't been informed on the exact problem the device has, but today we learn that the company decided to send a letter to its users to warn them on the issue.

And that issue seems to be overheating when charging. Although it might sound hilarious to hear about a Quickfire that would burst into flames, the danger seems to be rather real, as results from the letter AT&T sent to its customers:

“Please take special care when charging your Quickfire GTX75 mobile phone. There have been a few reports of significant overheating of the phone when the AC Charger adapter is inserted incorrectly and forced into the phone.

The clearly marked, embossed arrow on the AC Charger adapter should always be face-up on the same side as the display screen of the Quickfire when it is inserted into the phone. See the diagram below for proper positioning and insertion of the AC Charger adapter into the phone. You should never force the AC Charger adapter into the phone.”

Those who own a touchscreen QWERTY handset should therefore take extra caution while charging their device. The mobile phone carrier also provides users with a telephone number that they should call in case they have any questions regarding this issue of the handset, which is 1-800-801-1101.

AT&T launched the Quickfire GTX75 back in November, but the device was reported to have several quality issues, and the company halted the sales, though the handset could return to the market in another form.
