U.S. carrier AT&T is about to drop a large number of mobile phones from their offer and has advised employees to inform customers to make their final buys as soon as possible.

Among handsets that are reaching their “End of Life” status are the Motorola Backflip, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and Blackberry Bold 9000.

Each of the three devices have replacements designated by the carrier, which are supposed to be recommended to customers who are inclined to buy one of the aforementioned smartphones: Motorola Flipout for the Backflip, Samsung Captivate or Motorola Bravo for the Xperia X10 and Blackberry 9700 Torch for the Bold 9000.

Motorola Backflip is supposed to reach EOL on February 2nd, Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 on March 6th, while Blackberry Bold 9000 will stop being sold by AT&T on May 13th.

However, the carrier states that these dates could change anytime, so customers who want to purchase any of the listed devices should do so as soon as possible.

In addition to the three smartphones, AT&T plans to drop other handsets such as: Samsung Sunburst, Pantech Impact Blue, Samsung Flight, Blackberry Curve 8310, Sony Ericsson Vivaz, Blackberry Curve 8900 and others.

The Backflip is one of the few Motorola smartphones that got upgraded to Android 2.1 from an earlier iteration of the operating system. The device was launched on the market in March 2010.

Sony Ericsson Xperia 10 hit the shelves at the same time as the Motorola Backflip and was updated to run on the Android 2.1 Eclair platform in October 2010. Furthermore, the manufacturer stated recently that the device will not receive any other software upgrades such as Android 2.2 or 2.3.

The Bold 9000 is one of the oldest next generation Blackberry smartphones offered by AT&T, which has been retailing the device since 2008.
