Wireless carrier AT&T announced recently the signing of a multi-million dollar contract with Cummins Inc., a global power company focused on the design, manufacturing, selling, and servicing diesel engines and technologies all around the world. The new agreement between the two companies is aimed at network integration services, and stipulates that AT&T and EMC will integrate Cummins’ global networks with services that include content management, software and storage.

According to the two companies, those to benefit from the new agreement and from total end-to-end storage service solutions will be engineers and employees. AT&T will takeover the network hardware and software services, and its integration solution is expected to virtualize Cummins’ computing infrastructure. At the same time, a more efficient usage of hardware resources for consolidating devices, facilitating business continuity, and serving high-priority applications is also expected to result from the new partnership.

“Cummins always looks for cost savings regardless of the economic conditions,” Vernon Wilson, executive director of IT of Cummins Business Services, the shared services organization within Cummins, commented on the newly announced agreement. “We work collaboratively with our partners to both decrease costs and improve services and ultimately pass our savings on to our global internal customers.”

AT&T and EMC experts will also work on identifying and consolidating redundant technologies, resulting in greater cost-efficiencies for Cummins. On a global scale, the provider of design, manufacture, distribute, and services for engines and related technologies is expected to enjoy real-time visibility into business operations and workflows, no matter the period of time or location, which will provide a better responsiveness when it comes to market's and consumers' needs.

The areas in which Cummins Inc. operates include engine related technologies like fuel systems, controls, air handling, filtration, emission solutions, and electrical power generation systems, AT&T Inc. also noted that its services and products would be provided by its subsidiaries and affiliates under the AT&T brand, but not by the company itself.
