According to the latest news on the Web, we'll soon be able to see a successor for AT&T’s Pantech Duo, namely the Pantech Matrix PRO. The new handset runs under the Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system and is reported to have been unveiled today.

The new Matrix PRO features a sleeker design than its predecessor, and measures 22 mm in thickness. At the same time, the new mobile phone comes with two sliding keyboards, a QWERTY and an alphanumeric one, which would explain the thickness. The handset also includes a 2-megapixel camera and features video share support.

There are a couple of differences between Pantech Matrix PRO and the company's Pantech Matrix, which is only a feature phone. The new handset includes quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA connectivity, as well as built-in GPS, allowing it to work with the carrier's AT&T Navigator. As for the device's display, it is a 2.4-inch one, providing a 240x320 pixel resolution.

Besides the GSM / GPRS / EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS / HSDPA / HSUPA 850/1900/2100 MHz network frequencies supported, the new Pantech Matrix PRO is also stated to include 256 MB of ROM and 128 MB of RAM, a microSD memory card slot for additional storage, aGPS and Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity.

The handset will come to the market packed with a 1320 mAh Lithium-polymer battery that would be able to provide users with up to 3 hours of talk time, as well as with up to 10,4 days of standby time. The new mobile phone measures 106 x 51 x 22 millimeters and weighs 122 grams.

The launch date of the new Pantech Matrix PRO on AT&T is slated to be February 24. The price tag of the device has been set at $179.99 upon the signing of a 2-year contract agreement with the phone operator.
