Mobile phone carrier AT&T has just announced that the Cisco Cius tablet PC would arrive its shelves as an ultra-portable mobile tablet targeted at business users, offering support for the carrier's HSPA+ starting with fall 2011. Running under Google's Android operating system, the tablet PC is expected to arrive on shelves with a 7-inch, multi-touch widescreen color display that can deliver a 1024 x 600 pixels resolution.

It would also include 32 GB of internal flash, support for Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, 3G/4G connectivity options, built-in GPS receiver, micro-USB, and back and forward-facing cameras.

It also offers support for AT&T, Cisco and Android apps in a design measuring 8.85 x 5.5 x 0.59 in. (225 x 140 x 15 mm) and weighing in at 1.15lbs (0.52kg).

“We are mobilizing the day to day activities of our business and government customers, helping them act quicker for maximum agility and profitability,” said Shawn Conroy, vice president of voice, collaboration and unified communications services, AT&T Business Solutions.

“The Cisco Cius further extends our leading portfolio of enterprise mobility devices, and this is the latest example of our commitment to helping organizations of all sizes increase business velocity.”

The tablet is expected to arrive at AT&T with enhanced features aimed at enterprise customers, including communications, computing, and collaboration capabilities that would enable them remain productive even when on the go.

Not only would the device offer access to business applications, but it would also offer inter-operable HD video communications, along with conferencing, presence, instant messaging, and more.

“Business professionals today demand mobile devices that combine communication, collaboration, and a powerful computing solution,” said Steve Slattery, vice president and general manager, IP Communications business unit, Cisco.

“The Cisco Cius united with AT&T’s world-class network helps provide just the interaction and information they need to fundamentally change how employees go about their work.”

For the time being, AT&T did not unveil specific info on the availability or pricing of the Cisco Cius tablet PC on its airwaves, but more should become available as the release date nears.
