Wireless carrier AT&T announced on Wednesday that it continued the process of upgrading its 3G network with new enhancements in the Colorado Springs area. The operator deployed in that market additional wireless spectrum in the 850 MHz band, which is expected to offer it the possibility to offer better 3G wireless connectivity, as well as to improve the indoor coverage its users enjoy. Moreover, the new enhancement also brings increases in network capacity, so that it can better support the demand for 3G mobile broadband services.

According to the wireless operator, the newly deployed high-quality 850 MHz spectrum is aimed mainly at providing better in-building coverage, and AT&T users in Colorado Springs are expected to see improvements in the connectivity to the carrier's 3G network. The same increase in service quality in other markets has resulted in a rise in total 3G data traffic, the company added.

“The upgrades in the Colorado Springs area are of significant value to our residents and businesses, and we thank AT&T for bringing this type of broadband investment here. This continued commitment to give our community the best technology enables our businesses to be more competitive and gives residents access to the fastest services around,” State Senator John Morse commented.

The mobile phone carrier also announced that it planned on delivering further improvements to its network all around the country, so as to leverage the experience its users benefit from. At the same time, the company also aims at providing better services for its customers due to an increased demand for smartphones, which also drives to more usage of mobile broadband. The carrier says that the volume of data traffic on its network is currently unmatched in the country, and most of you might already know that the presence of Apple's iPhone exclusively on AT&T's airwaves is one factor that contributed to this.

“Enhancing our network across Colorado is crucial in serving our customers needs both in metro areas and rural areas. We are proud to offer real choices in service, devices and applications with the network to support all of their needs,” said AT&T Colorado president Bill Soards. Jace Barbin, vice president and general manager for AT&T’s wireless unit in the Rocky Mountain Region, added, “We know many customers depend on wireless service as a primary communications connection to work, family and friends and this substantial network upgrade is part of our commitment to deliver the nation’s fastest 3G connectivity along with excellent service quality and reliability.”
