US mobile phone carrier AT&T announced on Thursday that it made improvements to its wireless coverage at Cowboys Stadium. According to the company, the enhancements to its network have been made through the deployment of a new Distributed Antenna System (DAS), as well as through the rollout of new cell sites in the area.

“This will provide our customers with an enhanced mobile experience at Cowboys Stadium as they enjoy sporting events and concerts,” said Adam Vital, vice president and general manager, AT&T North Texas. “We are committed to providing superior coverage on AT&T’s network for all fans who spend time at this spectacular new venue.”

The new DAS installed at Cowboys Stadium includes a number of more than 500 antennas that have been distributed through the stadium. According to the carrier, mobile phone users should experience better coverage in the area, both on its 2G and 3G networks. Both voice and data coverage has been improved via the antenna placement, the company added.

“We have always understood that fans want to be able to immediately share their experience at Cowboys Stadium with their friends and family – whether that’s by sending a photo, a video, a text message, or making a call,” said Pete Walsh, IT director for the Dallas Cowboys. “AT&T’s significant investment in their equipment for the DAS, as well as the new cell site at the stadium, speaks to their commitment to provide Dallas Cowboys fans with the best possible wireless experience.”

The DAS project is aimed at delivering both indoor and outdoor coverage enhancements. AT&T's customers will be able to enjoy better services whether they use a mobile phone, a PDA, or a laptop. Access to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, access to navigation services and more are now better supported inside Cowboys Stadium and near it.
